Latex in Second Life

Wednesday, August 13th, 2008

As a clothing designer I am making latex items for some time now and if you know my work, you now know that I like to expiriment in materials and in different types of outfits. The very first items I made were non-latex lingerie items (the Thess and Suze sets). They didn’t sell very well, but making them I learned the most stuff I still use to make designs.

The items I make now vary from fetishy and bdsm outfits like the new (yet to be released) Expo 3.0 outfit to the cheerful summer style minidress (which isn’t released either hehe) to the lace / latex combinations in stylish lingerie items like the Ilya and Vox series.

The latex bdsm suit Expo 3.0 Full lingerie set Vox, latex and lace combined Ava wearing a latex mini dress

I love to do it all, not only because there is an infinte number of possibilities and ideas for new sets. I also love to show ppl that latex items can be more than only fetish, or only bdsm (only to be worn in the bdsm-dungeon). A lot of people who never thought they would be wearing latex left my store with one or more items which they wear to a party or during a more private moment with their lover(s).

For all you latex enthousiasts (even if wearing latex is not a complete lifestyle for you), there is the SL-Latex group in Second life. Feel free to join and meet fellow latex minded people, models, photographers and more to talk to, exchange landmarks and links etc…! If you are on Flickr and you have nice Second Life and latex related pictures, post them in the SL-latex group! Me and Ellen hope to see you in upcoming events in Second Life and we’ll be seeing your pictures on Flickr!

Hugo’s week of releases

Saturday, August 2nd, 2008

Last thursday Hugo’s week of releases came to an end. I sent out a notice to my groupmembers and to the Fashcon network. I hope it has gotten out… I didn’t get it myself (yet). However… It was busy in the shop, so that means a lot of people did! Again this release was a succes and I want to thank my models Ellen and Tillie for making the latex sets look so great on the vendor posters!

So… What are the next plans? I expanded my current shop for the last time… I used the maximum in space and now I can add products until I run out of prims… It can probably last two or three more updates before I need to start thinking about a new one. I guess that will be in the end of this year.

I will also work on photography and illustration some more, and I’ll be working with Ellen and Latexia on that. I’m really looking forward to working on that, there has been very little time to do so in the past weeks. SweetJessy will most definately star on new pictures too!

Then there will be new sets too! I can already let you know that new designs are on the way. The main thing I am thinking about right now is which way to go. Right now I’m making fetish suits on one hand (like the expo sets) and on the other hand there are the more classy lingerie sets like the Ilya and Vox sets. For now I guess i’ll be making all kind of sets sonce all is selling really well. I’m also thinking about an occasional space suit and knowing myself, i’ll mix the three genres up again to come to more new idea’s…

As always, If you think you have a great idea for a new set and you’d like me to see if I can and want to make a real ‘hugo’ out if it, let me know! Both the Viktoria and Expo 2 set were made after a friend showed me a picture…

Vanity Expo!

Wednesday, July 16th, 2008

This week you can find me, or better, my items at the Vanity Universe Lingerie and Beachwear Expo! you can also see the link to German SL Style (German). And here is the SLrul. It’s a fair for ‘normal’ lingerie. I am there to spread some stylish latex ;) Here is the promo image for my booth!

Hugo\'s latex design promo showing sexy Ellen

On the promo picture you can see Ellen, and she’s wearing something new! It is a set based on art made by Rick van Koert and the set is named after the person who brought it to my attention: Viktoria. If you know Rick’s work, you may know the image this set was created from. More images from this set and other new creations soon, as new ideas finally are coming into shape.

RL has been trowing some serious amounts of work my way past week and I hope to get some design time this weekend and upcoming week!

Busy

Tuesday, July 8th, 2008

To people who come to me with questions about blogging I always preach tell that most important is… above all… what you should absolutely do is have continuity. Write an item once a week, or you will loose the people that stop by regularly to see what you are up to. Write! No matter how busy you are…….

Well… I’m kind of breaking my own iron rule here since the last post is from somewhere last month. I really didn’t sit still, so here is a little update. I’m at work now so no pictures at hand a.t.m. Two weeks ago I did another fashcon / group release of new items and reactions and sales have been really great. Thank you all for the great support and nice IM’s and reactions!

I’m going to pick up photography again and opened yet a third Flickr stream… this one will be restricted from the start. The images up there will be sl-photo expiriments in- and exploration of the latex fetish area with Latexia and Ellen as my main models. No real heavy stuff… however, a lot of latex and some nudity can be expected… When all is set, i’ll place the link to this stream here.

New plans for this blog/website are small: apart from putting the new items into my fashion database I will create model pages for the beauties that model for me so you know who is who…

Next to that I really hope to find some time to make new latex sets! My main addiction needs that fix(!!!)

More news soon ;)

Just a quick post here to let you know that German SL-style (in german) took the time to write an article about my current items! I really love the pictures and what Betty Tracer wrote about me. Second, Linnda Scofield did an interview with me on Dutch secondlife Style (in Dutch). Check out these blogs for more cool tips on virtual fashion

Expo latex suit, black, first vesrionI have some time off upcoming days, so I hope to spend some time designing new items. If all goes as planned, the new items will be released somewhere next week! items like ‘Expo’ which a lot of people have been asking about…

Making second life clothing

Friday, May 23rd, 2008

Something different for a change. Why only use the blog to announce new releases? There is more to write about! Take for example questions that are asked me from time to time….

A recurring question is ‘how do you make clothing?’ or ‘is it easy to make your own clothing on second life?’ In upcomming posts I will show you how I do what I do. I hope this will make you, my readers, happy… (both of you haha).

  • The things I am going to cover will not be complete tutorials, if you want to know something about a detail I seem to have skipped, just send me an email or comment on the post!
  • My way to do things is not THE way to do it, there are a lot of techniques to design and make clothing for second life.

As always, you need the proper tools to create your own magic. I use a pen and paper, avipainter, adobe illustrator and adobe photoshop. Next to that, there is a package of body-part templates provided on the second life website which you can use to fit your clothing images on.

  • Avpainter is a very handy program which gives you an avatar in a window on which you can paint. very simple. I don’t use this program all the time, only when I want to make a design which is completely new. (yes this means that a lot of clothing is created using something ‘old’ as a base for something new… this saves -a lot- of time.) When you are working on a design, you can also load it into avpainter to see if it works. uploading a texture to SL costs 10 L$ and it takes a lot of uploads to get everything right…. so avpainter can save you some money! It can be bought through slexchange.com
  • Adobe Illustrator. When a design is drawn in Avipainter, it is imported into illustrator and used as a template to draw the clean lines in. If you have another programm in which you can draw lines quickly, you can use that!
  • Adobe photoshop. I use it to finish my designs, change colors, ad details like paterns, shades… I really can’t think of designing clothing without photoshop. Some people use an alternative like paintshop pro or Gimp. As a websdesigner in rl I use photoshop every day.. There is little it can’t do and I cannot imagine desinging stuff without it…

Next to these tools you need a good deal of creative energy, patience and time. Designing clothing for you avatar is hard, especially in the beginning, so my advice is: ’start simple’ (with a T-shirt for example) and work your way up to a detailed outfit consisting of more pieces of clothing…

One of the best websites for detailed tutorials… no, the best website for tutorials is SL Natalia’s blog. She has covered everything you can possibly think of in relation to designing (clothing) in second life…

In upcoming posts I will cover how I start/make/finish a design…

There is one more question which is asked me a lot… it is: ‘How do you make these realistic latex shines?’ I’m sorry but this will remain my secret ;)

New items and pictures

Monday, April 28th, 2008

Yey! I finally managed to finish a picture / photo which I had sitting on my desktop for a very long time. I had an idea for a multi-mirror shot and Zaza Moo was my model. Constructing the image appeared to be somewhat difficult and right now my rl company is doing really well, so little time is left for projects as these. You can always come to me for model shots, but right now I am not taking on new projects other than the ones I initiate myself. (If you want model shots, you can contact Tillie Ariantho. She is a very talented model and photographer.)

Ellen wearing Ava 4.0 over a 10 precent sheer catsuit with seamsAs for my second job… *grin* IM messages have been sent to me, asking me when new stuff is finally going to be available. It is coming, and I hope I can get all that I want to make in store soon. There are many items which are (almost) finished (see the picture of Ellen for example, wearing Ava 4.0 over a brand new 10 percent sheer catsuit (Cat 2) with seams).

My head is filled with new ideas and the base of all latex outfits has been recreated and somewhat perfected this weekend. Now all I need is time and creative energy to make all the new sets… and more important, get them into the shop!

More Ava and Lucid

Thursday, April 3rd, 2008

I installed the latest Second Life viewer update on my pc half an hour ago. I found out that what was previously called WindLight (atmospheric rendering), is now standard part of the viewer. If you don’t like it (or if your computer, like mine, can’t handle it), you can switch it off. I really love the atmospheric effects, but on the other hand, avatar photography looks better in the old viewer (in my opinion).

New sets! Yes there are a lot of new sets in store. some of them combinations of sets that were already for sale. here is a list of the new sets:

  • Ava 1.0 (black)
  • Ava 1.0 (black) - Lia combination
  • Ava 2.0 (black) - Lia combination
  • Cat black
  • Ava 1.0 (white) - Cat black
  • Lucid 3.0

A lot of Ava combinations :) and why do the version numbers have a ‘.0′ notation? Well… I really don’t know. There must have been some logic in that, but I’ve forgotten what it was… Since the black Ava 2.0 was such a success, I decided to make a black version of Ava 1.0 too. Same goes for the Ava 2.0 / 1.0 - Lia combinations. An image says more than a thousand words so here are the vendor posters:

Ava 1.0 - blackAva 1.0 (black) - Lia combination

Ava 2.0 (black) - Lia combinationCat - black

Ava 1.0 (white) - Cat blackLucid 3.0

I will also release a combination of Cat black and the Solar corset from the previous post in the near future. From this batch of items I am particularly pleased with the Cat-black latex cat suit and the Lucid 3.0 set, which are well… hot :)

Still more items are waiting to be released… So make sure to be back soon for more info… or subscribe to my feed
